Instances of wrong-way driving on freeways appear to have increased; frequently, the associated collisions result in severe injuries and fatalities. In addition to identification of the causal factors associated with driver decisions to enter the freeway counter to the flow of traffic, appropriate measures also are needed to alert other motorists and to achieve a predictable response. Addressing these challenges is critical for departments of transportation across the country. This workshop examines current practices and research on the topic.
