Neurocognition and Transportation Operations: Attentional State and Operator Behavior (HF-D Ticket Required)

Sunday, January 07, 2018, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, Marriott Marquis 2018
Maura Lohrenz, OST-R/Volpe Center; Rachel Grice, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), presiding
Sponsored by Standing Committee on Vehicle User Characteristics

Operator impairment from such factors as fatigue, distraction, drugs and alcohol, or aging threatens safety in every mode of transportation; impairment results in slower reaction to conditions or events, failure to recognize hazards, and increased accident risk. This workshop provides a forum to discuss emerging research in neurocognition and behavior, including the use of neurocognitive sensors to assess cognitive functions (e.g., alertness or vigilance) and to predict and prevent various types of operator impairment.
