Consumer Acceptance of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and Highly Automated Vehicles (HF-G Ticket Required)

Sunday, January 07, 2018, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, Marriott Marquis
Daniel McGehee, University of Iowa; Ashley McDonald, University of Iowa, presiding
Sponsored by Standing Committee on Vehicle User Characteristics

Advanced driver assistance systems are rapidly becoming standard on entry-level vehicles. More highly automated vehicles (HAVs) also are entering into production. This combination holds great promise for preventing and reducing the severity of thousands of crashes. This workshop describes how consumer education and the experiences of the MyCarDoesWhat.org campaign apply to automated vehicles and HAVs. Participants also will discuss how NHTSA’s automated vehicle guidelines on consumer education fit into this overall space.
