Including Social Equity in Community Transportation Planning and Design

Sunday, January 07, 2018, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM, Convention Center
Gloria Jeff, Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, presiding
Sponsored by Standing Committee on Environmental Justice in Transportation; Standing Committee on Public Involvement in Transportation; Standing Committee on Environmental Analysis in Transportation; and Standing Committee on Women's Issues in Transportation

Although planners and engineers know that prioritizing equity in their programs is the right thing to do, transportation equity often is difficult to implement in practice. With so many options—shared mobility, transportation demand management, Complete Streets, transit-oriented development, bus rapid transit, smart cities, and Sustainable Mobility for All—how do agencies adopt a balance that will serve the entire community, sustain culture, and enable economic growth? In this workshop, participants work scenarios in small groups to capture transportation equity research needs.
