This workshop features innovative research presented by second- and third-year Dwight David Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship recipients from top universities across the nation. Their research covers a broad array of significant transportation topics, including infrastructure development and investment, safety, security, emerging green technologies, and many other relevant topics.

This workshop provides a platform for younger TRB attendees to present their research in transportation modeling and travel behavior analysis. Doctoral candidates who have participated in previous workshops have benefited from the experience of presenting and receiving feedback on their research.

The session covers new topics related to the use of probe-based travel time, speed, and reliability data for such applications as performance management, incident impacts, major storm events, detour routing, and its validation against other data sources on such metrics as latency and dynamic time estimation.

This session presents the latest innovations in travel survey methods, including smartphone surveys, GPS processing, gamification, and stated preference and survey design and techniques.

This lightening session explores the latest advances in vehicle choice and vehicle use modeling, with a particular focus on the potential impacts of vehicle automation. The session considers the dynamics of vehicle purchase decisions, how travelers decide which type of vehicle to purchase and use, the relationship between travel and vehicle choice, and how all of these factors are influenced and changed as autonomous vehicles become more widely available.

This session covers all topics related to pavement surface characteristics including pavement friction, smoothness, texture, and environmental and safety issues.

The Committee on Construction Management highlights advancements in transportation construction management across a broad spectrum of topics ranging from predictive analytics of commodity pricing to identifying geotechnical risks in construction.
